Leadership Summit 2012  - Session #1 - Bill Hybels
Key points to do as a new leader.

1. Clarify Vision and Values

2. Build a team

Great leaders go the extra mile because the team is worth it.
Everyone wins when a leader gets better.

Note: Some don't have a faith component yet to their story and that's okay. It's okay to ask them if they have added a faith component their story.

Luke 8: Parable of th sower
Everyone's life would be better with God at the center of it.
"It's time to sow a lot more seed"
Micro community strategy (in services for mega churches)
The whole organization takes it's seeing sowing from you (Senior Leader)

One of the fundamental responsibilities of the leader is to stay curious and stay experimental.

Insistent tinkers. - sow more seeds and experiment with different types of seeds.

Work Habits of a Leader
6 x 6 Concepts
Leaders most valuable asset is their energy and the ability to energize other people.
Energizing capabilities.

Question: What would be the greatest 6 contributions that I can make to the church in the next 6 weeks.

Put energy bursts into  your day.
What new initiatives and projects are you planning to move ahead with in the next 6 weeks.
God made you a leader not to just respond to stuff all day but to move things along.

Succession Planning is an important part of the process

Phase I
Whose job is it
What is he time frame?
How will the church honor the current Pastor?
Phase II
Ideally find an internal person to be the successor.
Phase III
Actual transition - Successor has been identified and the transition of responsibilities start to take place.
Some Pastors are tempted to hang on to long. Don't do it! Do the right thing for your church.

Moving people from here to there.
****Don't build the case of there until you build the case of why you can' stay here. ***

When is the vision most vulnerable? Vision is extremely vulnerable in the middle.
When are leaders most vulnerable?
Goal : Everyone fully utilized.
Leadership is an incredible privilege.
Enjoy every single day you get to lead.
